Scrapware – Junkyard computing
MutzBunny
Homebrew computers on a shoestring? Of course it’s possible! Here you can check out a few computers that were built entirely from scrap. Nothing here was built with the right parts, a decent budget or any excessive regard for established methods. Instead, these machines were born out of stubbornness, questionable decisions and that dangerous thought: ‘Surely I can build this myself’ Specifically, I’ll show you a clattering computer made from relays that once served the SBB and guided trains to the right destinations, as well as other homebrew machines that demonstrate what happens when you try to understand computers by building the whole absurd contraption from scratch yourself. Some solutions are elegant; others are held together by cable ties, hope and components from some random box.
Please don’t touch. Not because it’s valuable, but because nobody knows what else might fall off 🙂
