Tech for Equality and One Laptop Per Child

Javier Alvarez

Tech for Equality – T4EQ explores the history and features of the One Laptop Per Child XO-1, also known as the $100 laptop.

Discover the unique qualities of these computers, from technical features such as Open Firmware and the Sugar desktop environment to the project’s philosophy and the design of the computers, which were created to give children in developing countries access to the world of computing.

The exhibit demonstrates how technology can help improve educational opportunities and bridge the digital divide. The XO-1 was specifically designed for use by children and was intended to encourage independent learning, collaborative discovery and creative engagement with digital media. As such, the project stands as a prime example of the effort to make computers more accessible worldwide.
