Demomaking for Beginners: The 64-KB Canvas
Sergio Lindo Mansilla
With its 64 KB of RAM, the Commodore 64 offers astonishing possibilities for creative audiovisual productions. ‘Demo-making’ involves creating programmes that impressively demonstrate the computer’s technical capabilities through self-generated graphics, animations, music and sound effects.
This exhibit introduces the basics of demo production on the C64 and shows how fascinating effects can be achieved even with limited resources. It offers an insight into the interplay between programming, music and digital art – and highlights that creativity is often more important than sheer processing power.
