Evolution des réseaux et services à l'EPFL dans les années 80

LAN on Smaky computer

René Beuchat

In the seventies Ethernet started in USA as well as others network architectures. At EPFL, Switzerland the big infrastructure of the campus was done around this network. At the LAMI (Laboratory of Microcomputer), the local network Cobus was born with low speed,
but nice features as a Mini-computer server and Smaky6 micro-computer as user machines.

With the more advance feature of the 68’000 families of Smaky, more powerful capabilities have been done with Nanet, Z-Net based on SWAN network, and server available on any machine connected to the network. More on that in the conference and the global services at EPFL.
